Behold: the (disassembled) Air King ™!

May 6th, 2016

Our new Air King ™ fan. Current status: disassembled.

What you are looking at is that which I hope will be the solution to our air circulation problems here at home. Though the place is pretty snazzy for the most part, the sad truth is that we do not have the benefit of central air. Ours is an older home, after all, and the landlord apparently didn't think it was a priority to update the place such that it possessed that property.

We do have one wall-mounted air conditioner, mounted in the kitchen, but that doesn't help us when we're on the other side of the house, down the hall and out of the direct path of that contraption's output. Enter: the Air King ™. This thing is a twenty inch diameter, 1/4 horsepower industrial strength fan, like the madcap machines I use at work to keep cool in the summer.

Or to dry things off fast. I sprang for this in the hope that I could create an air tunnel from the living room to the other rooms in the house once summer is upon us, and we'll see if that actually works out. The only problem with the Air King ™, though, is that I received a defective part in the mail from its manufacturers. Namely, the pipe that attaches to the base is faulty.

The threading that you're supposed to screw a bolt in to mount it to the base was not cut correctly, and it has bent metal bits inside. So, sadly, I can't finish assembling my Air King ™. I did get to at least test the thing out, though, and it can move air. Heck, the thing seems to produce thrust when I'm holding it upright, so that's a good sign, right?

Luckily, the manufacturer agreed to send me a replacement pipe for the fan, but as it turns out, I just got my manufacturing engineer at work to fix the threads on the extant one. He has many, many tools that I lack, after all, so he was able to clean that up in no time flat. So, when I get home, I should be able to get the Air King ™ functional at long last. Awesome, eh?

I thought so, anyway.
